Corona Island Opens to the Public, Promising an Eco-Friendly Getaway
Following an exclusive launch for guests back in 2021, Corona Island, an ecologically preserved tropical haven located off Colombia’s coastline, has officially opened its doors to the public. Previously a hidden gem known only to those with special invitations, it is now welcoming visitors from around the world.
Travelers have the opportunity to book one of ten charming, sea-view tiki-style bungalows designed to accommodate two guests. Each bungalow features a private jacuzzi and is nestled along a picturesque beachfront. The all-inclusive stay offers round-trip speedboat transfers from Cartagena, along with a full dining experience that includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and, of course, Corona beer. Current rates indicate that a King Bed Bungalow can be reserved for around $658 for a Saturday night in April.
For those looking for a shorter visit, a limited number of all-inclusive day passes are also available for $163. This pass includes speedboat transportation to and from the island, access to a beach bed and sun lounger, and a delightful three-course à la carte lunch.
Beyond its inviting beaches, Corona Island offers a range of experiences tailored for adults. Visitors can enjoy a selection of local culinary delights at the island’s restaurant and unwind at the Sunclub bar, which is positioned perfectly for watching sunsets while enjoying drinks and music. The tranquil lounge area is a serene spot where the sounds of nature—waves lapping against the shoreline, the calls of vibrant macaws, and the chatter of titi monkeys—create a calming atmosphere.
Corona Island’s activities are designed to encourage a reconnection with nature. Guests can partake in various curated experiences, such as yoga sessions, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding, along with environmentally focused activities like mangrove planting and coral reef restoration available for an additional fee.
“We aim to offer an exceptional blend of breathtaking scenery, sustainable practices, and engaging outdoor activities,” stated Clarissa Pantoja, the global VP of Corona. “Our goal is to invite eco-tourists and travel enthusiasts to explore this remarkable destination, where every experience showcases our commitment to conserving the natural environment,” she added, as quoted in Travel + Leisure.
Aligning with its sustainability mission, Corona Island upholds Corona’s “100% Natural” ethos, focusing on natural ingredients and responsible tourism. It boasts the distinction of being the world’s first island to receive Oceanic Global’s three-star plastic-free Blue Seal for ocean conservation. Renewable energy for most island operations is supplied by solar panels, and the construction utilizes traditional techniques complemented by local artisans’ craftsmanship. Furthermore, the island plays an essential role as a nesting site for sea turtles, highlighting its ecological significance.
Guests can now secure their day passes or overnight stays through popular travel platforms like Airbnb, Expedia, Booking.com, and TripAdvisor, as well as directly via livecoronaisland.com.
