Netflix continues to deliver thrilling action films from different parts of the world, with the upcoming release of Counterstrike (also known as Contraataque). Directed by Mexican filmmaker Chava Cartas, the newly released trailer showcases an explosive adventure that is sure to excite action movie enthusiasts. The action thriller features a group of friends who find themselves in a fierce conflict with a volatile cartel. Check out the trailer for Counterstrike below.
Under the direction of Chava Cartas, noted for his work on the action series Rosario Tijeras, Counterstrike is penned by writer Jose Ruben Escalante Mendez. The film includes a talented cast featuring Luis Alberti, Noé Hernández, Luis Curiel, Leonardo Alonso, David Calderón, Guillermo Nava, Israel Islas, Mayra Batalla, Ishbel Bautista, and Frida Jiser. It is set to premiere on Netflix on February 28, 2025. Below is the official synopsis for the film.
“When a hostage rescue mission creates a new enemy, Capt. Guerrero and his elite soldiers must face an ambush by a criminal group.”
‘Counterstrike’ Promises To Deliver No-Nonsense Action Movie Delights
As one of the cartel enforcers declares, “I want each and every one of them torn to shreds,” they remain unaware of the formidable opponents they will be facing. The trailer suggests that Counterstrike is packed with the essential elements of a classic action movie. This small yet determined group of soldiers, fighting against all odds, seems poised for intense confrontations marked by rapid-fire action and relentless drama.
When the group intervenes during a routine shopping trip to halt a kidnapping, they inadvertently enter a perilous situation—an archetypal scenario for action protagonists. Following their heroic act, they find themselves targeted by the same ruthless cartel they thwarted. However, similar to iconic characters like Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills and Keanu Reeves’ John Wick, the criminals miscalculate the strength of their adversaries. This time, they are up against members of the Mexican Special Forces known as the Murciélagos, who are described as nearly invincible, “who can only be killed from behind.” The film promises a plethora of shoot-outs, explosions, and heart-pounding action upon its release on Netflix later this month.
Alongside Counterstrike, Netflix is also set to release another highly anticipated action movie this month, Demon City. Scheduled for debut on February 27, 2025, Demon City translates the manga “Oni Goroshi” by Masamichi Kawabe into a live-action format. This revenge thriller follows a former hitman who, after suffering devastating losses, embarks on a brutal path of vengeance. The recent trailer for Demon City has already drawn comparisons to the celebrated John Wick series due to its intense narrative and action sequences.
For those eagerly waiting, Counterstrike will be available for streaming on Netflix starting February 28, 2025.
