Aetbaar also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Bipasha Basu and was released in 2004. John Abraham is currently starring in The Diplomat
John Abraham has recently shared a memorable experience from the early phase of his acting journey related to his film Aetbaar, which premiered in 2004.
His latest film, The Diplomat, is garnering positive attention, having grossed Rs 1.50 crore recently, taking its total earnings to Rs 14.80 crore. In a candid discussion, John recounted a surprising incident during the muhurat shot of Aetbaar, where, despite being the lead actor, he faced an unexpected barrier before making his entry onto the set.
In an interview with Filmfare, John recounted his arrival for the muhurat shot, saying, “I arrived on a motorcycle. For Aetbaar, Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan were the ones clapping the board for me. Hrithik, a dear friend and my classmate, was there, but I was initially stopped at the gate because of my motorcycle. There, they questioned me, ‘Kaun ho?’ (Who are you?). I informed them I was there for my film’s muhurat, and eventually, they allowed me in. As soon as the gates opened, Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik were signaling for me to come in. It was quite an unforgettable moment—it took place at Sujeet Kumar’s residence.”
Aetbaar, which starred notable actors including Amitabh Bachchan and Bipasha Basu, draws inspiration from the 1996 American film Fear.
Turning to The Diplomat, the film is a political thriller directed by Shivam Nair, with a screenplay crafted by Ritesh Shah. John Abraham takes the lead alongside Sadia Khateeb, with the storyline focused on the nuanced dynamics of India-Pakistan relations, showcasing the challenges and moral dilemmas encountered by diplomats.
The Diplomat is built around a compelling real-life narrative featuring Indian diplomat J.P. Singh as he navigates a critical international situation. The plot escalates when Uzma Ahmed approaches the Indian embassy, claiming she has been kidnapped and coerced into marriage in Pakistan. This sparks a tense diplomatic standoff, as Singh grapples with intricate legal issues and mounting political pressure while under the scrutiny of both nations, striving to ensure Uzma’s safe return.
An excerpt from News18’s review of The Diplomat notes, “The film possesses all the essential elements of an engaging political thriller. It captivates the audience with intense moments, a compelling soundtrack, and a reasonably solid narrative. However, while it successfully builds tension, it ultimately falls short of delivering a definitive impactful conclusion.”
