Kryptonians are renowned for their incredible powers, making the concept of a whole family of them quite formidable. Although Superman is often seen as the epitome of Kryptonian power, his relatives are also notable contenders with impressive abilities.
The Super-Family, which has expanded significantly in recent years, features an array of members, each with unique strengths. Traditional figures like Superboy and Power Girl coexist with lesser-known characters such as Ronan Kent and newcomers like Osul-Ra. While they all share Kryptonian heritage, their powers vary widely, leading to a ranking of their strengths.
11 Jor-El
Superman #53 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster
Jor-El, the original head of the Super-Family, lacked the powerful capabilities that Superman possesses. Having spent most of his life on Krypton, he did not experience the extraordinary abilities available to his son. Though Jor-El was a talented scientist who innovated technologies like the Phantom Zone projector, his physical prowess is minimal, and he is seldom portrayed as a significant threat to others.
His sole display of might occurred during his guise as Mr. Oz, where he was primarily manipulated by Doctor Manhattan. Ultimately, this makes Jor-El one of the least powerful members of the Super-Family.
10 Mon-El
Superboy #89 by Robert Bernstein and George Papp
Mon-El, who encountered Superman during his youth, initially appeared to be a fellow Kryptonian. However, he is actually a Daxamite, sharing powers with Kryptonians but bearing a fatal weakness to lead, which is abundant on Earth.
This sensitive vulnerability positions Mon-El as one of the Super-Family’s weaker members, despite his formidable powers. In a more recent storyline, Mon-El was reimagined as a hybrid of human and Kryptonian, but most fans are familiar with him as a Daxamite.
9 Ronan Kent
Future State: Superman – House of El #1 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Scott Godlewski, Gabe Eltaeb, and Troy Peteri
Ronan Kent, a descendant of Superman and leader of the House of El in the distant future, attempts to embody his ancestor’s principles. He possesses abilities typical of Kryptonians, including enhanced strength and super speed.
Despite his potential, Ronan’s character development stagnated due to the discontinuation of the Future State narrative, preventing him from fully exploring his powers.
8 Hunter Prince
Justice League #26 by Bryan Hitch, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Brad Anderson, Jimmy Betancourt, and Richard Starkings
The son of Superman and Wonder Woman from an alternate timeline, Hunter Prince was raised by Lois and Clark Kent to keep him safe from his dark destiny. While not a pure Kryptonian, he inherits powers nearly equivalent to those of his mother, Wonder Woman, positioning him as a formidable force.
7 Otho-Ra
Action Comics #1038 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Miguel Mendonca, Adriano Lucas, and Dave Sharpe
Otho-Ra is a young Phaelosian connected to the Superman family. Although not a Kryptonian by strict definition, she exhibits many of their powers, along with unique abilities like Genesis Energy Absorption, enabling her to wield energy blasts and create protective force fields. Her powers place her slightly above the ordinary Kryptonian level.
6 Osul-Ra
Action Comics #1038 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Miguel Mendonca, Adriano Lucas, and Dave Sharpe
Osul-Ra, Otho-Ra’s twin brother, shares many of her powers as a Phaelosian, alongside the capacity to summon Olgrun, a powerful entity in the DC Universe. His ability to wield such formidable powers elevates him beyond conventional Kryptonians, despite a more restrained approach to confrontation.
5 Rowan Kent
Future State: Superman – House of El #1 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Scott Godlewski, Gabe Eltaeb, and Troy Peteri
Rowan Kent, sister to Ronan, also emerges from the Future State storyline. Her Kryptonian abilities are enhanced by possession of a Blue Lantern Ring, augmenting her already significant powers. This combination creates a nearly invulnerable hero capable of complex defensive maneuvers.
4 Conner Kent / Kon-El
The Adventures of Superman #500, “First Sighting…” by Karl Kesel, Tom Grummett, Doug Hazlewood, Glenn Whitmore, and Albert De Guzman
Conner Kent, a genetically-engineered clone of Superman and Lex Luthor, embodies the essential Kryptonian abilities but also features unique traits such as Tactile Telekinesis. This capability allows him to manipulate objects and deflect attacks, including those from Kryptonite, marking him as a distinct powerhouse within the Super-Family.
3 Jon Kent
Convergence: Superman #2 by Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, Brad Anderson, and Sal Cipriano
Jon Kent, the hybrid offspring of Lois Lane and Clark Kent, showcases extraordinary capabilities, indicating he may surpass even pure Kryptonians in strength. His ability to manipulate solar energy allows him unique enhancements, like creating potent electric blasts. Jon’s confrontations with notable adversaries highlight his formidable status in the superhero community.
2 Kara Zor-El
Action Comics #252 by Otto Binder and Al Plastino
Supergirl, known formally as Kara Zor-El, shares her cousin Superman’s powerful abilities and has on several occasions demonstrated resilience that surpasses his. A notable feat occurred during her ordeal with a Kryptonite-infused sun, where she outlasted Superman significantly, underscoring her exceptional endurance.
1 Superman / Clark Kent / Kal-El
Action Comics #1 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster
Superman, the quintessential Kryptonian, possesses unmatched strength and prowess in the DC Universe. His abilities include traversing galaxies at extraordinary speeds and withstanding immense pressure. Throughout his history, Superman has achieved feats that set him apart from all other Kryptonians, asserting his dominance in terms of overall capability and endurance.
