According to Sgt. Frédéric Deshaies, the girl was with another youth who had ventured to the factory grounds and climbed to the top of a silo prior to the fall. Unfortunately, she fell inside the silo, a structure made of concrete and metal, and became trapped.
Firefighters from Shawinigan, approximately 165 kilometers from Montreal, requested assistance from their colleagues in Trois-Rivières for a specialized confined space rescue operation. The young girl was located and successfully freed around 4:40 a.m. on Saturday. However, despite being transported to the hospital, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A coroner has been assigned to investigate the circumstances surrounding her passing.
