Thanksgiving Day Shooting Claims Life of 71-Year-Old Florida Man
A tragic incident unfolded in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, where a 71-year-old man, Hureleyon McLean, was allegedly shot dead by his neighbor on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
McLean’s widow, Rose, recounted that her husband went downstairs to address a complaint from their neighbor, who had left a note stating that McLean’s music was too loud during the holiday celebration. “I heard it, and I just flew to the door,” she stated. “When I look out, my husband was laying face down in the blood.”
The unnamed suspect in the shooting is claiming self-defense, as reported by the sheriff’s office. No charges have yet been filed against him following the incident.
“My husband didn’t have any weapons. My husband didn’t even have a knife on him,” Rose emphasized, asserting that the shooter threatened her after the shooting occurred. She expressed her distress over the altercation, stating they had planned to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends before the event took a devastating turn.
Following the incident, Rose confronted the alleged shooter, asking him why he shot her husband. According to her, the response was chilling: he warned her that if she did not remain silent, he would shoot her as well. This has left a profound impact on her, as she shared her feelings of disbelief and sorrow.
Tracy McCloud, McLean’s pastor, echoed the sentiments of shock and lamented the current state of society. “It’s crazy how mankind has gotten to a place where we don’t honor life like we should honor,” he remarked. “Who would have thought something tragic like this would happen?”
McLean was not only a devoted husband but also a father to two sons and a grandfather. His widow reflected on their bond, saying, “Anywhere he is, I’m always with him. We’re like a team together. For him to be taken away like this — trust me, it’s very hard.”
As the investigation continues, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine whether any criminal charges will be filed against the alleged shooter. This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the violence that can arise from disputes, particularly during times that are meant for celebration and gratitude.
