8BitDo Unveils the Ultimate 2 Controller with Innovative Features
8BitDo has recently announced its latest gaming controller, the Ultimate 2, enhancing the gaming experience by incorporating advanced features from its earlier models. A standout addition is the RGB Fire Ring lighting system, which was first seen in the smaller Ultimate C wired Xbox controller. As the name suggests, the Ultimate 2 controller boasts a vibrant ring of color-changing LEDs encircling the base of its joysticks. These lights offer multiple modes that react dynamically to players’ actions, including button presses and joystick movements, enhancing the visual feedback during gameplay.
Notably, the Ultimate 2 retains the innovative Hall effect sensors in its triggers, which are designed to provide superior accuracy and reliability. New to this model is a special switch that allows gamers to adjust the trigger response. This flexibility enables players to optimize their controls for different gaming genres—switching between long-draw triggers for racing games and short-pull tactile triggers for fast-paced first-person shooters. Additionally, following in the footsteps of the more budget-friendly Ultimate 2C, the Ultimate 2 is equipped with an additional pair of customizable shoulder buttons located on the back, allowing for greater control and adaptability in various gameplay scenarios.
The Ultimate 2 connects seamlessly with 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2, which includes a mobile app for easy customization. This software facilitates the remapping of buttons and fine-tuning of joystick and trigger sensitivity. Players will also appreciate the support for motion controls, available for compatible games, further enriching the gaming experience. A charging dock is included with the controller, ensuring convenience for users who prefer a tidy setup.
In terms of connectivity, the Ultimate 2 provides multiple options: Bluetooth, a wired USB-C connection, or a low-lag 2.4GHz wireless connection via an included USB-C dongle. However, it’s worth noting that, like its predecessor, the Ultimate 2 controller is compatible only with PCs running Windows 10 and later, as well as Android devices operating on Android 9.0 and newer.
