Lea Salonga Unveils Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore
Broadway icon Lea Salonga made a striking appearance in Manila, Philippines, as she unveiled her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Singapore. The event was exclusive, drawing attention to the singer’s celebrated career and significant contributions to both theater and film.
Salonga, a renowned singer and actress, has achieved recognition far beyond her Philippine roots. She made history as the first Asian to portray the role of Eponine in the acclaimed musical Les Misérables. Her portrayal of Kim in Miss Saigon earned her prestigious honors, including the Tony and Olivier Awards. Additionally, she is celebrated for lending her voice to Disney princesses Jasmine and Mulan, further broadening her international acclaim.
Expressing her gratitude, Salonga stated, “I am deeply honored and thankful to receive my own wax figure. The wait is over, and I’m thrilled for you all to see it. It means so much to me to be able to join the remarkable lineup of Filipinos immortalized at Madame Tussauds.”
The wax figure of Lea is elegantly adorned in a striking blue gown, affectionately known as her “workhorse gown.” Created by her long-time friend and designer Rajo Laurel, the dress features a sophisticated corset design crafted from premium crepe fabric. Salonga explained, “I chose this dress as I felt it best represented my personality and sensibilities for performances. This gown has served me well for many shows, so it felt fitting for it to be featured on Madame Tussaud’s wax likeness of me.”
The unveiling took place at the lavish Solaire Resort in Entertainment City, Parañaque, Metro Manila, where a group of ten lucky fans received the opportunity to meet Salonga alongside her wax counterpart. Elaine Quek, Head of Sales and Marketing at Madame Tussauds Singapore, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Lea to our star-studded attraction! Our sculptors dedicated up to six months to create this figure, ensuring every detail reflects her spirit and charisma. The pose we selected captures her magnetic stage presence, allowing her talent and personality to shine through. We hope this figure will inspire visitors around the globe.”
To further commemorate this significant unveiling, Madame Tussauds Singapore has initiated a collaboration with Klook Philippines. They launched a limited-time 1-for-1 ticket promotion, available at the Klook Travel Fest hosted on September 14 and 15, 2024, at SM Megamall. Michelle Ho, General Manager of Klook Philippines, expressed excitement about this partnership, stating, “We’ve long been proud to support Madame Tussauds in honoring the remarkable talents of global icons. Adding Lea Salonga to the collection of Filipino figures, including Pia Wurtzbach, is a milestone worth celebrating. We look forward to delivering unforgettable experiences through this collaboration.”
Fans will have the chance to meet Salonga’s wax figure starting September 20, 2024, at the Music Zone of Madame Tussauds Singapore, alongside other international stars such as Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé.
