Apple has recently launched the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update for the iPhone, marking a significant enhancement to its software ecosystem. This update is particularly notable for its integration of features driven by Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence suite. Users of supported iPhone models will now have access to innovative tools including advanced writing aids, an object removal Clean Up tool, and the ability to summarize web pages.
Key Features of the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 Update
With the introduction of the iOS 18.1 Public Beta 1 update, Apple aims to enhance user experience through its AI-driven capabilities. One of the standout features is a new set of writing tools that assist users in proofreading their documents, offering spelling and grammar checks. Additionally, users can creatively rewrite text in various styles, including Concise, Friendly, and Professional tones. The AI can also provide summaries, generate lists and tables, and highlight key points within the content.
The Clean Up tool is another exciting addition, utilizing Apple’s AI technology to remove unwanted elements from images, whether they be objects, backgrounds, or text. Though the anticipated enhancement to Siri, showcased during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 in June, is not yet live, the update does introduce a refined user interface, featuring glowing edges on the screen when engaging with the voice assistant.
For Safari users, the update brings the capability to summarize web pages activated in reader view, making it easier to digest content quickly and efficiently.
In a separate but noteworthy addition, the iOS 18.1 update also introduces a call recording function. Users can initiate recording by tapping a newly added icon at the top-left of their screens. Once activated, all participants in the call will be notified through an audible alert, and the recordings, along with transcriptions, will be conveniently housed in the Notes app.
In addition to the iPhone update, Apple has released corresponding updates for the iPad, designated as iPadOS 18.1, and for Mac computers with macOS Sequoia 15.1, both of which will also feature Apple Intelligence capabilities.
