Karan Johar Discusses the Bachchan Family’s Orderly Lifestyle

During a recent episode of Neha Dhupia’s talk show, insights emerged about Shweta Bachchan’s relationship with orderliness and the potential implications of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). While the specifics of any medical diagnosis were not established, Karan Johar provided detailed observations regarding the organized manner in which the Bachchan family operates.

In the show, Neha prompted Shweta with, “What’s with this OCD? Why do you keep adjusting things?” to which Shweta responded with a nuanced perspective. “I don’t. I just like things a certain way. I don’t even like to say I’m OCD anymore because everyone says they’re OCD, and I don’t want to be what everyone else is,” she explained. This assertion reflects a growing discourse surrounding the casual use of the term “OCD” in everyday conversation.

Johar shared a personal experience that highlighted Shweta’s meticulous nature. He revealed, “We went out for dinner once and I have a big problem that I eat off other people’s plates.” Shweta quickly cut in, stating, “I can’t bear it.” Karan elaborated on the incident, noting that after he had taken food from her plate, she stopped eating entirely, revealing later that it led her to go home hungry. “That’s when I realised the extent of her madness,” he remarked, suggesting a deep-seated desire for control over her dining environment.

Karan also attributed this penchant for order to Shweta’s mother, Jaya Bachchan. He recounted an experience while discussing a script with the veteran actress, noting how her attention was consistently drawn to the individual cleaning her silverware. “Jaya would keep finding faults during the cleaning while I narrated emotional scenes,” he shared, indicating a family trait that emphasizes meticulousness and attention to detail.

The filmmaker further commented on the structured nature of the Bachchan household, noting Amitabh Bachchan’s system for marking newspapers after reading them. He stated, “When Amit uncle has finished reading the Times of India, he’ll write ‘AB tick,’ then it’ll go to AB Jr (Abhishek Bachchan) then JB then SB. It’s a methodical family,” showcasing their unique approach to maintaining order in even the simplest daily activities.

Shweta, married to Nikhil Nanda since February 1997, reflected that her understanding of this behavioral pattern grew after integrating into a Punjabi family structure. They have two children, Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda, who now find themselves in a family that blends traditional methods with contemporary lifestyle choices.
