Jim Henson Company’s Studio Lot Not for Sale to Church of Scientology
The Jim Henson Company’s studio lot in Los Angeles is not changing ownership, contrary to recent rumors suggesting a sale to the Church of Scientology. This clarification comes after a report gained traction earlier this week, claiming that the iconic studio, known for its association with The Muppets, was set to switch hands.
In response to these assertions, the estate of the celebrated puppeteer issued a statement, firmly denying any ongoing negotiations regarding the sale of the historic lot. “In regards to recent rumors about the sale of the La Brea studio lot, the Henson family is not in any business dealings with the Church of Scientology, and that organization is not in consideration as a potential buyer of the property,” the statement specified.
Furthermore, the estate affirmed the family’s intentions to relocate The Jim Henson Company to a new site that will be shared with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. However, they clarified that there are no current escrow arrangements with any buyer.
Originally constructed in 1919, the renowned studio lot has a rich history, having previously served as the home for Charlie Chaplin Studios. The Henson family acquired the property in 1999, and it has since functioned as the headquarters for the Jim Henson Company, contributing to its legacy in the entertainment industry.
Located at the intersection of La Brea and Sunset Boulevard, this studio lot occupies valuable real estate in a prime area of Los Angeles.
Reports confirming that the studio is not being sold to the Church of Scientology were first published by Deadline.
