This evening marks the kickoff of previews for “Maybe Happy Ending” on Broadway, highlighting an exclusive glimpse of the performances featuring Darren Criss, Helen J Shen, and others.

The musical is gracing the stage at the Belasco Theatre and includes a talented cast featuring Dez Duron and Marcus Choi. This romantic musical comedy is composed by Will Aronson, with lyrics from Hue Park, and a book collaboratively penned by both Aronson and Park. The direction comes from Tony Award-winning artist Michael Arden.

A recent video showcases the cast alongside the creative team as they engage in technical rehearsals ahead of the official opening scheduled for November 12.

Set in a modest apartment on the fringes of Seoul, the narrative follows Oliver (Criss), who enjoys a serene life filled with jazz records and tending to his beloved plant. However, being a HelperBot 3, a model that has been rendered outdated, begs the question—what is left for him? An unexpected interaction arises when Claire (Shen), his HelperBot neighbor, borrows his charger, leading to an unusual friendship that blossoms into an extraordinary adventure—and possibly… love?

Recognized with the Richard Rodgers Award, “Maybe Happy Ending” presents a quirky yet compelling tale of two misfits nearing the expiration of their warranties who learn that even robots are capable of falling in love. With the inventive direction of Michael Arden, known for works like “Parade” and “Once on This Island,” and a striking scenic design by Dane Laffrey, known for “A Christmas Carol,” the musical offers a refreshing perspective on what makes life meaningful.

“Maybe Happy Ending” is uniquely available in both Korean and English. The Korean version debuted in December 2016 at the DaeMyung Culture Factory in Seoul, achieving recognition with six Korean Musical Awards, including Best Musical. The English adaptation received the 2017 Richard Rodgers Production Award and made its U.S. debut at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta during the 2019-2020 season, under the guidance of Michael Arden.
