Charlamagne Tha God Critiques CNN’s Coverage of Trump
During a recent episode of “The Breakfast Club,” Charlamagne Tha God offered strong criticism of CNN’s approach to covering Donald Trump. He expressed concern that the network often fails to focus on crucial topics, stating, “they always center the wrong conversation.”
Charlamagne argues that this misdirection has contributed to the normalization of Trump’s “fascism.” He believes that media outlets like CNN have a responsibility to address these issues head-on, rather than presenting them as ordinary occurrences.
In a segment that also touched on comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s inappropriate jokes about Puerto Rico, Charlamagne emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue across political lines. He remarked, “I have no problem, as you know, having conversations with people I don’t agree with. I think conservatives should talk to liberals, and vice versa. We are all humans on this planet trying to figure it out.” He underscored that such discussions should be conducted in good faith.
However, he criticized CNN for what he perceives as a lack of sincerity in its coverage. “The first issue is what they choose to center and how they choose to center it,” Charlamagne noted. He recounted watching a segment on a recent MAGA rally, which he felt was treated as a routine event, raising concerns about the media’s ongoing struggle to address far-right extremism directly.
“We’re almost 10 years into the Trump era, and they still don’t know how to cover that demon,” he stated. He highlighted the odd juxtaposition of discussing such rallies while simultaneously probing whether Vice President Kamala Harris should appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast, finding it indicative of a deeper issue within the network’s reporting.
Charlamagne stressed that CNN, in particular, seems to struggle with prioritizing important narratives. “They always center the wrong conversation,” he claimed, arguing that this trend plays a role in normalizing Trump’s controversial actions and rhetoric.
He also critiqued CNN for inviting conservative voices that derail important discussions, specifically referencing a recent incident on CNN NewsNight involving racially charged comments. He argued that these patterns inhibit meaningful conversations about pressing issues.
In the aftermath of his recent interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN, Charlamagne highlighted what he perceives as an imbalance in the network’s discourse. He expressed frustration, noting that he hears more discussion around topics such as “Is Kamala Harris Black?” than about the implications of Trump’s leadership style.
Cooper appeared to contest this view, asserting that CNN does not dwell on such trivial debates. The two exchanged a heated dialogue, with Cooper insisting that no anchor on the network posed questions about Harris’s identity as if they were serious news stories.
Despite Cooper’s rebuttal, Charlamagne remained steadfast in his belief that networks, including CNN, fail to engage in honest discussions regarding Trump since 2016. He criticized the continued double standards in reporting that affect public perception of Trump in relation to other political figures.
“We talk about him being a threat to democracy, but we don’t treat him like one,” Charlamagne concluded, further calling for a more straightforward and honest media narrative regarding the former president and his influence on contemporary politics.
