Dear Everything: A Musical Movement for Climate Awareness
Dear Everything, a singular musical event, is set to make waves on January 30, 2025, at Terminal 5. Created by Tony and Obie Award Winner V (formerly known as Eve Ensler), this innovative production features music composed by Grammy Award Nominees Justin Tranter and Caroline Pennell, alongside contributions from Eren Cannata and lyrics from the same musical team, with additional input from Idina Menzel. The orchestrations come from Daniel Crean, while Christiana Hunt takes charge of the choreography. The production is directed by Diane Paulus, a distinguished Tony Award winner and Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.).
Originally titled WILD during its inaugural concert performance at A.R.T. in 2021, Dear Everything narrates the journey of a group of young individuals in a small town. Their quest to protect their local forest awakens latent powers within them, highlighting their profound connection to the planet and the transformative potential of unity and collective action. The musical aims to resonate with audiences by emphasizing the urgency of environmental activism.
The cast boasts a diverse lineup, including V, Latrice Pace, YDE, Paravi Das, Luke Ferrari, Michael Williams, Brittany Campbell, Terrence Archie, Caesar Samayoa, Benny Elledge, and Allison Guinn. In addition, the event will also spotlight The Broadway for Arts Education Choir. The Dear Everything Youth Council is set to introduce prominent figures such as Academy Award-winning actress and activist Jane Fonda and fellow actor and activist Rosario Dawson, who will share closing remarks.
At its core, Dear Everything tackles one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the climate crisis. The uplifting pop and folk anthems reflect the generational divide, capturing the current preoccupation of adults with immediate survival, juxtaposed against the youth who are intensely focused on safeguarding the future. The project has found its home at A.R.T., a prestigious incubator known for its pioneering theatrical work, audience engagement strategies, and its role in driving social change through the arts.
The musical’s compelling track, “Panic,” has echoed at various climate rallies and protests, including significant events like the March Against Fossil Fuels, which drew over 35,000 attendees, and Jane Fonda’s Climate PAC initiatives. Furthermore, the Boston Children’s Chorus had the distinct honor of performing “Panic” for Prince William and the Princess of Wales during their visit to Boston for the 2022 Earthshot Prize, demonstrating the song’s broader cultural resonance and impact.
