Historic McAfee House in Cobb County Offered for $1
An iconic historic residence in Cobb County has recently been listed for the remarkable price of just $1, but potential buyers should be prepared for some significant responsibilities.
The McAfee House, located at the intersection of Bells Ferry Road and Ernest W. Barrett Parkway, is currently owned by an individual who is looking to transfer ownership to Cobb Landmarks, an organization dedicated to the preservation of local historic sites.
Constructed in 1864, the house is seeking new ownership with the expectation that the buyer will not only restore the structure but also relocate it to a new site. Cobb Landmarks is actively pursuing buyers who can commit to both aspects of this undertaking.
Potential buyers interested in this unique opportunity must navigate an application process established by Cobb Landmarks, which is assessing candidates based on their proposed project plans to relocate and restore the home.
“The house is being offered for $1.00 (USD) to the applicant with the most compelling submission. In order to be considered, interested parties must complete an online questionnaire,” Cobb Landmarks noted. “Applications will be evaluated by a committee consisting of Cobb Landmarks trustees, realtors, and construction and engineering professionals.”
In an effort to preserve the historical significance of the McAfee House, the buyer will be required to implement a preservation easement. This ensures that the building’s exterior maintains its historical integrity and safeguards it from potential future demolition.
Individuals interested in acquiring the McAfee House must submit their applications by January 17. The selection committee will then notify the chosen buyer by January 31.
Once the acquisition is finalized, the new owner will have a period until May 15 to relocate the house from its current location.
For those ready to take on the challenge of preserving this historic building, applications and project proposals can be submitted by head online here.
