Wesley Snipes Reprises Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, Sparking Fan Reactions
This year’s Marvel film, Deadpool & Wolverine, has generated considerable excitement with its blend of humor and action, highlighted by the return of Wesly Snipes as the iconic character Blade. His appearance in the film comes as a surprise to many fans, especially given his memorable quote, “There’s only been one Blade, there’s only ever gonna be one Blade.” Following his unveiling as Blade, a wave of calls for Snipes to continue portraying the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have surged on social media, with Ryan Reynolds even expressing interest in a conclusion similar to that of Logan.
The reboot of Blade, intended to introduce a new iteration of the character, has faced numerous challenges, including losing multiple directors and writers and the frustration experienced by lead actor Mahershala Ali. Snipes recently responded to this chatter, sharing a social media post that featured an article titled, “Cancel Mahershala Ali’s Blade Movie And Bring Wesley Snipes’ Daywalker Into The MCU.” His humorous caption, “Y’all, crazy! Hahaha,” leaves open the possibility of his continued involvement without outright rejecting the idea.
Wesley Snipes’ Blade: A Historic Comeback
Reflecting on his unexpected return, Snipes acknowledged that he did not foresee stepping back into the role of Blade again. His last performance as the vampire hunter was nearly two decades ago, making this return not only significant for fans but also for the actor himself, who now holds a Guinness World Record.
Snipes has officially been recognized for having “the longest career as a live action Marvel character,” with his return to the character in Deadpool & Wolverine marking “25 years and 340 days since he first portrayed Blade in Blade (1998).” This record surpasses that of Hugh Jackman, who first appeared as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men.
Directed by Shawn Levy, with a screenplay co-written by Levy, Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, Deadpool & Wolverine features Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively. The story follows their new mission assigned by the Time Variance Authority (TVA), leading them through the chaotic realms of the multiverse.
