Lady Gaga Shines at FireAid Benefit Concert
Lady Gaga delivered a heartfelt performance during one of the FireAid benefit concerts held at the Intuit Dome, captivating the audience with her powerful rendition of “Shallow” followed by the uplifting “Always Remember Us This Way.” She concluded her set with a brand-new song crafted specifically for the event.
“I love you all so much,” Lady Gaga expressed as she graced the stage, taking a seat at a grand piano accompanied by her band. “Thank you for having me tonight.” Following her rendition of “Shallow,” she reflected on the challenges of recent times, stating, “This has been a difficult and frightening period, but in such moments, we often come together and realize how much we need one another. I want to remember us just like this.”
The artist introduced her recently penned song, which embodies the sentiment that “time is a healer.” Gaga shared her creative process, explaining, “As I thought about what to perform tonight, I wanted to provide something hopeful for you. I couldn’t find the right track from my existing repertoire, so my fiancé Michael Polansky and I wrote a new song just for this occasion. It’s simply for tonight, and it’s just for you.”
“Shallow,” co-written with Bradley Cooper for the film A Star Is Born, earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song following its release in 2018. Similarly, “Always Remember Us This Way” was also a featured song in the film. For her FireAid performance, Gaga made an adjustment to the opening lyric, changing it to, “That California sky burnin’ in your eyes.”
Other celebrated artists such as Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Katy Perry also took the stage at the same venue during this benefit event, which was one of two star-laden arenas simultaneously hosting concerts for the cause.
The concerts were produced by music industry titan Irving Azoff in collaboration with LiveNation and AEG Presents. Both the Intuit Dome and KIA Forum in Los Angeles featured concurrent performances aimed at generating funds for those affected by the devastating wildfires that have plagued the area for several weeks. A host of other prominent performers included Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jelly Roll, and Peso Pluma.
In addition to the live performances, the benefit concerts were broadcasted in real-time at select AMC Theaters and via platforms including iHeartRadio, Apple Music, Netflix, Paramount+, Prime Video, Max, SiriusXM, SoundCloud, Veeps, and YouTube, further extending the reach and impact of the fundraising efforts.
