Chloe Watson Set to Defend European Flyweight Title on Historic All-Women’s Boxing Card

Chloe Watson is gearing up to defend her European flyweight championship against Jasmina Zapotoczna on March 7, at the esteemed Royal Albert Hall, as part of a groundbreaking all-women’s boxing event. This match marks an important moment for women’s boxing, showcasing top-tier talent in a prestigious venue.

Watson, who trains under the guidance of former world champion Ricky Hatton, has been announced as the final participant on a card that features a highly anticipated welterweight world title unification bout between British rivals Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price.

The champion clinched the European flyweight title with a unanimous points decision victory over Justine Lallemand back in December 2023. Initially, Watson was set to make her first title defense against Zapotoczna in September 2024. However, an unfortunate shoulder injury led to a postponement of the bout.

At a recent press conference, Watson acknowledged the significance of the fight, stating, “I think Jasmina is a good fighter, but it’s a very dangerous time to be fighting me. I’ll be looking to put on my best performance yet come March 7. What a platform and show to do it on.”

Reflecting on the opportunity to compete alongside Jonas, Watson expressed her admiration for the fellow Merseyside boxer. “It’s great to be on the same card as Tasha Jonas who was a massive role model for me growing up. Coming from the same area and high school, she’s always been a big inspiration to me,” she added.

Jasmina Zapotoczna earned her title shot following a remarkable win against the previously undefeated Maisey Rose Courtney in July 2024. Originally from Poland and now fighting under the British flag from her base in Wakefield, the 30-year-old aims to deliver an upset in her quest for the title.

Zapotoczna remarked on the magnitude of the event, saying, “I’m honoured to be part of such a historic boxing event and I can’t wait to step into the ring with Chloe. Chloe is the perfect opponent for a European title fight, and I know this will be an extremely competitive battle. I’m ready to give it everything and deliver a performance to remember.”

The event will also feature other exciting matches, including Francesca Hennessy’s clash against Bolivia’s Carla Camila Campos Gonzales, alongside Caroline Dubois defending her world lightweight title against WBC contender Bo Mi Re Shin. Additionally, an intriguing all-British featherweight matchup between Karriss Artingstall and Raven Chapman will take place, along with the professional debut of Olympic trailblazer Cindy Ngamba against reigning European champion Kirstie Bavington.

This historic card not only highlights the increasing visibility of women’s boxing but also signifies a pivotal moment for female athletes on major platforms. Fans and boxing enthusiasts alike eagerly anticipate the showcase of talent and competition that March 7 promises to deliver.
