Lululemon Unveils Its New Glow Up Collection: A Game-Changer for Athleisure
In the quest for personal transformation, timing can be transformative, particularly when it comes to fitness and fashion. For many individuals, the gym symbolizes a fair battleground where they aspire to emulate the effortless style of fitness enthusiasts. Recently, Lululemon launched its innovative Glow Up line, which promises to enhance the wearer’s physique while ensuring comfort during workouts.
This new collection features a medium-support tank and high-waisted leggings, both rigorously designed to create a flattering silhouette without compromising on ease of movement. As explained by Melanie Anayiotos, the Vice President of Women’s Design at Lululemon, the design aims to “minimize the belly and waist while accentuating the glutes.” The inclusion of a front center seam and a curved back seam serves to create an optical illusion that enhances body contours.
As a wellness editor with extensive experience in athleisure, initial skepticism accompanied my excitement to test this collection prior to its release. Upon first glance at the leggings, I hesitated; the waist seemed disproportionately small, reminiscent of children’s wear. However, upon trying them on with minimal effort, I was pleasantly surprised by the transformation—I found myself embodying an hourglass figure I had not anticipated.
The leggings feature a super high waist constructed with bonded materials and streamlined seams that embrace and smooth out the tummy without sacrificing breathability. Unlike typical compression styles that can elicit a sense of restriction, these leggings provide a comfortable compression that allows freedom of movement. While some firmness is evident, it’s easy to overlook once engaged in physical activity.
Throughout my wear, which included various fitness modalities from Pilates to HIIT workouts, the leggings maintained their integrity without rolling at the waist. I also appreciated their moisture-wicking properties, enhancing comfort even during intense sessions. The top provides medium support, though individuals with larger busts might want to consider sizing up for optimal comfort. While I initially opted for my standard size, I found it gave a bit too much prominence, though that seemed to please my partner.
Beyond performance, the Glow Up collection offered a surprising boost of confidence. On days when motivation to exercise is low, feeling good about how I looked in this line encouraged me to push through the door and engage in my routine. This insight aligns with Lululemon’s design philosophy, which prioritizes the aspirations of women in the fitness space.
According to Anayiotos, there is a noticeable trend in consumer preference. “More women are focused on strength training, and there’s a growing demand for leggings that provide additional support, contouring, and smoothing,” she noted. Feedback from customers and brand ambassadors has played a significant role in shaping this new line aimed at creating curves while fostering a sense of empowerment.
In summary, the Glow Up collection caters to individuals seeking to boost their confidence amid exertion. Its combination of shaping attributes, comfort, and quality is exceptional compared to other offerings in the market—having tested numerous pairs across various brands, I found these to stand out. My only hope is for an expansion in size inclusivity, which would make this innovative line even more accessible.
