Prince Harry’s Vision for the Future: Invictus Games and Family

Prince Harry has consistently showcased his dedication to the Invictus Games since their inception, with his wife Meghan Markle accompanying him at each event since 2017. As he contemplates the possibility of involving their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in future Games, he expresses a heartfelt desire for them to witness what he describes as the “Invictus spirit.”

In an interview with Town & Country, Harry stated, “Absolutely,” when asked if he would like to bring his children to the Games one day, emphasizing his eagerness for them to experience this significant event firsthand.

Harry initiated the Invictus Games in 2014 in an effort to support wounded, injured, and sick military personnel, attracting participants from both active duty and veteran communities. The Games are more than just a sporting event; they embody resilience, community, and service—values Harry is already instilling in his young children.

“At this moment, they’re still quite young, but we have discussions on the importance of resilience and community, reflecting everything that Invictus represents,” Harry explained.

In a noteworthy moment from February 9, he shared how he spoke to five-year-old Archie about the dangers of landmines. Drawing from his experiences with the Invictus Games, Harry introduced Archie to a poignant video depicting Princess Diana walking through a minefield in Angola in 1997—a path Harry would later retrace in 2019.

According to The Telegraph, this was part of Harry’s effort to help Archie understand the enduring effects of war weapons. “It’s challenging,” he admitted, “because children often don’t ask the right questions. You can either shut it down or engage in meaningful discussions.” He continued, recalling Archie’s curiosity about landmines and the dialogue that unfolded, which inadvertently became a tribute to his mother, Princess Diana.

Harry noted that Archie expressed interest in seeing videos and photos of Diana’s historic efforts to ban landmines. “It led to a really intriguing conversation between us,” he remarked.

As the Invictus Games commenced in Vancouver and Whistler, Meghan shared in a spontaneous speech that Harry actively involves their children in discussions about the event. She described a typical morning filled with family activities and Harry’s preparations for the Games, highlighting his commitment to both family and his humanitarian work.

“When Harry is busy on his phone during our morning routine, Archie asks, ‘Papa, why are you on your phone?’ to which he replies, ‘Because it’s Invictus. I’m getting ready for Invictus,'” Meghan narrated.

She further emphasized how deeply Harry cares for the participants of the Games, stating, “You are his family just as we are his family. I hope you recognize the extent of his investment in your journey and how much each of you means to him.”

After attending the initial phase of the Games, Meghan returned home to care for Archie and Lilibet. They celebrated Valentine’s Day apart as Meghan posted on her Instagram about missing Harry while he continued his impactful work at the Invictus Games. Alongside a loving photograph, she expressed pride in Harry’s achievements.

Reflecting on the significance of returning to Canada for the Games this year, Harry described it as a full-circle moment. He noted, “Canada has shown us incredible kindness, and to be back here for the Invictus Games after eight years, now married with two wonderful children, is fantastic!”

Additionally, in an interview with CTV News aired on February 13 titled Prince Harry and the Canadian Heroes, Harry shared insights about parenting. He described the joys and challenges of raising Archie and Lilibet, stating, “Having kids is wonderful, but it’s a constant journey. They grow and evolve each day.” He expressed admiration for the questions and challenges his children present, illustrating his deep appreciation for parenthood.
