Kendrick Lamar’s GNX Ascends to Top After Super Bowl Performance

Damn and good kid m.A.A.d city have also surged back into the Top 10 following Lamar’s historic halftime show.

Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX, has reclaimed the Number One spot on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart, fueled by the excitement surrounding his critically acclaimed Super Bowl halftime performance. According to Billboard, the album previously topped the chart upon its release last December and has now sold 236,000 units alongside 161.01 million streams since the performance, which took place last Sunday.

The album’s climb to the top involved surpassing the Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, marking a notable shift in the charts as Lamar’s popularity soared after the game, which itself was characterized by a significant skew in favor of the winning team.

Lamar’s halftime performance was a standout moment in an otherwise one-sided matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. It has been reported as the most-viewed halftime show in history, amassing an audience of 133.5 million viewers, a figure shared by Roc Nation and Apple Music. Notable figures such as SZA, Samuel L. Jackson, and Serena Williams made appearances, enhancing the spectacle of the event.

While GNX may have dominated the charts, it wasn’t the only one of Lamar’s albums benefiting from the Super Bowl exposure. His acclaimed projects, Damn. and good kid m.A.A.d city, both saw significant boosts, landing at Number Nine and Ten, respectively. This resurgence illustrates the continued relevance and impact of Lamar’s discography.

In addition to the album success, Lamar’s single “Not Like Us,” a pointed diss track where he addresses Drake with controversial claims, is anticipated to rise to the top of the Hot 100 chart as well. This track was highlighted during the Super Bowl halftime show, further propelling its visibility. Notably, the song recently took home five Grammy Awards, including prestigious honors for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, solidifying Lamar’s status as a leading voice in contemporary music.
