Potensic’s Atom 2: An Updated Drone for BeginnersThe pricing starts at $329, with the Fly More bundle available for $449 (UK/Australia prices yet to be confirmed)Key features include 4K HDR video, 48MP still photos, and a transmission range of 10 km

The Potensic Atom 2 has been introduced as a successor to the Potensic Atom, widely recognized as a strong alternative to DJI drones for beginners. While it does not dramatically reinvent the wheel, this updated model brings several enhancements that position it as a noteworthy competitor to the DJI Mini 4.

Among its standout features are gimbal-stabilized 8K video capability, the option to capture in 4K HDR, and improved vertical video modes tailored for social media platforms. Additionally, users can expect high-resolution 48MP still images, sophisticated AI subject tracking, and a transmission range and stability that extends up to 10 km, alongside Full HD live viewing at 30 frames per second with minimal latency of just 120 milliseconds.

For the first time, Potensic is offering after-sales care for the Atom 2, which includes easy replacements and professional support. This initiative may not extend to older models, but it emphasizes Potensic’s commitment to customer satisfaction, offering reassurance that assistance is available if challenges arise with the new drone.

The Atom 2 is priced at $329 for the base model, while the Fly More Combo, which includes extra batteries and a charging hub, costs $449. This represents a slight increase over the original Atom, which debuted at $299 for the standard version and $399 for the bundle.

An Enhanced Alternative to DJI for New Pilots

While the DJI Mini 4K is widely regarded as an ideal entry-level drone, and the Mini 4 Pro stands as a premium choice for beginners, there remains considerable uncertainty regarding a potential ban on DJI products in the U.S. This scenario propels interest in alternatives like the Potensic Atom 2.

The specifications of the Atom 2 suggest a thoughtful upgrade featuring enhanced image quality and advanced capabilities in a drone that weighs less than 250 grams. With an impressive 12MP 1/2-inch Sony CMOS sensor and a new, brighter f/1.8 lens, the Atom 2 aims to compete directly with the DJI Mini 4K, while also offering ambitious features.

This new model not only captures 48MP still images and 8K video but also introduces a 4K HDR video mode. Potensic has announced that a future firmware update will incorporate log video recording options, which allow for maximum detail capture, albeit at the cost of requiring post-processing for desired aesthetics.

Additional features include an AI tracking function that automatically centers subjects in the frame and a dedicated AI Night Mode for capturing detailed images in low-light conditions. Moreover, a Dolly Zoom feature simplifies the process of creating cinematic shots, while panoramic photography modes make it easy for users to capture wide landscape images.

Details regarding the official release date for the Atom 2 are still pending, and our review of the drone hasn’t been conducted yet. As information becomes available, including pricing specifics for the UK and Australia, updates will be provided to keep readers informed about this promising drone option.
