ST. LOUIS — A historic building in St. Louis, originally constructed in 1890 by the architects behind the Cathedral Basilica, is currently listed for sale at a price of $1.8 million. Located in The Gate District, this property formerly known as the Immaculate Conception Church boasts a substantial size of 15,750 square feet and occupies 1.26 acres, which includes both the church and an adjoining rectory.
The architectural features of the church are striking, incorporating three beautiful rose windows and soaring ceilings that reach 60 feet. With a capacity to seat over 1,000 attendees, the venue holds immense potential for adaptation into various uses such as an event space, restaurant, or creative studio, as detailed in the listing.

Opposite the church, the rectory extends over 9,324 square feet, featuring seven bedrooms on the second floor and an additional six on the third floor, which were traditionally used by clergy. In addition to the bedrooms, the rectory is equipped with a kitchen and communal living areas.
The current owner, Patrick Schuchard, who serves as president of Schuchard Projects, acquired the building and has dedicated himself to its restoration. He noted that at its height, the church was one of the largest in the greater St. Louis area.
Prior to Schuchard’s ownership, the property was purchased by the Compton Heights Concert Band from the Archdiocese approximately two decades ago, serving as a venue for performances and practice sessions.
Schuchard emphasized that the property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for both the church itself and the associated rectory.
“We’ve dedicated significant effort to restoring this historical gem, and we are excited to continue finding and rejuvenating properties like this in St. Louis,” Schuchard remarked.
