[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for NCIS Season 22 Episode 16 “Ladies’ Night.”]
In the latest episode of NCIS, the characters Kasie (Diona Reasonover) and Knight (Katrina Law) attempt to enjoy a rare night off, but their plans take an unexpected turn due to a new case. Knight’s sister Robin (Lilan Bowden) is the driving force behind the ladies’ night, insisting on a break from work discussions. However, the duo soon discovers inconsistencies regarding their suspect, compelling them to dive back into investigative work. Initially frustrated, Robin eventually joins their inquiry, paralleling the involvement of McGee (Sean Murray), Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and Parker (Gary Cole).
Reasonover shared insights on the shooting of this entertaining episode and discussed her experiences, including the return of LL Cool J.
This is such a fun episode. Was it enjoyable to film? I love seeing Kasie out of the lab.
Diona Reasonover: Absolutely! Filming was a blast. I found myself walking into different sets that were entirely distinct from the lab—like the pottery studio and the wine bar. Each location looked so appealing that I was tempted to hang out there in real life. I kept wondering if this was what the crew did regularly, and it was fascinating.
Did you take up pottery as part of your research for the episode?
Yes! When Sydney pitched the idea of Kasie doing pottery, I decided to enroll in a class. I even made a bowl, which I’m quite proud of! There was a dedicated technician to assist, but I got to make a pot in one of the takes, which felt rewarding.
Will we see more of Paige (Charlie Morgan Patton) or any developments in Kasie’s love life?
I genuinely hope so! Working with that actress was delightful, and that onscreen chemistry was exciting for me. I was quite nervous during those scenes!
What do you think Kasie is looking for in a relationship at this stage?
Kasie seems to crave a little fun in her life. Balancing her demanding job, which involves safeguarding the Navy, makes casual dating complicated. So, she might just want someone to enjoy downtime with—maybe even playing games together.
Furthermore, it sounds like Paige was a good match for her…
Yes! She seemed very open to engaging in adventurous activities, like diving into naval crimes.
This episode was directed by Rocky Carroll. What’s it like working with him?
Rocky is among my favorite directors. He has previously directed episodes focused on Kasie, and his artistic approach really resonates with me. He excels at discussing characters’ emotions and motivations, which makes the process enjoyable.
The episode suggests that Torres and Robin’s relationship might be ending. Is that true?
It certainly looks that way. I mean, I think it’s likely over. Their relationship, referred to as either “Torobin” or “Rores,” doesn’t seem to be in a good place.
I would love to see more ladies’ nights with Kasie, Knight, and Robin. They make a great investigative team.
Absolutely! There are so many interesting characters we could introduce into those nights. Imagine Delilah (Margo Harshman) joining in, or perhaps Carol Wilson (Meredith Eaton). Who knows, we might even get a surprise appearance from Ziva (Cote de Pablo)!
Speaking of returning characters, what is it like filming with LL Cool J again?
Honestly, I felt nervous because he exudes so much coolness, and I couldn’t help but think of his hits while he spoke to me. Despite my nerves, he is incredibly kind and brings a fun energy to the set.
How does the dynamic between Sam and Kasie play out in this episode?
I requested a scene between Sam and Kasie, knowing I would get starstruck, and now every time he appears, we have a scene together. In the moment, I try to maintain my composure, but inside, I’m fangirling!
Will we see more familiar faces soon?
You’ll have to watch and stay tuned!
What was your favorite scene to film from this episode?
Definitely the pottery scene. Getting my hands dirty, shaping that vase, brought a lot of joy and a sense of absurdity to filming.
As we move forward in the season, will Kasie be seen outside the lab more often?
While there are numerous Navy-related investigations requiring her expertise, I’m looking forward to seeing how her character develops, especially with a Season 23 in the works!
Who does Kasie confide in the most?
Palmer (Brian Dietzen) is her go-to confidant. She finds it easier to open up to him, whether intentionally or not.
Are there upcoming scenes that focus on their friendship?
I truly cherish their friendship. Brian and I bond both on-screen and off, which makes those moments genuine and special.
Parker continues to grapple with his mother’s death. Will Kasie be involved in the storyline?
Kasie is always there to lend support and provide her forensic expertise, but Parker’s situation primarily draws Knight in closer.
What else can fans expect for Kasie?
I hope she gets a chance to unwind on a tropical vacation!
What are your aspirations for Season 23?
It would be interesting to reintroduce characters from Kasie’s past. While she’s full of enthusiasm for her cases, exploring her boundaries would add depth to her character.
What specific boundaries would you like to see her address?
I’m not entirely sure what those would be. Kasie has faced many challenges in the past, but I’d like to see her avoid some unsettling scenarios this season.
Are there any characters you want her to interact more with?
I really enjoy my scenes with McGee (Sean Murray). There’s a great synergy in our interactions, blending technical aspects with a fun rapport.
What have been some of your highlights from filming this season?
The girls’ nights have been a joy, as well as the numerous squad room interactions. I also appreciate how Gary brings in old-timey slang for fun moments, which always makes for a laugh.
