Chase Ends with Sentencing for Pennsylvania Man
A Pennsylvania man has received a prison sentence following a high-speed pursuit involving the state police. Derik Carothers, aged 29 and from Washington, Pennsylvania, was sentenced after leading officers on a chase along Route 28 on October 20, 2019, culminating in a rollover crash in South Buffalo Township.
During the incident, law enforcement discovered a significant quantity of illicit substances, including crack cocaine, alongside a digital scale and $290 in cash in Carothers’ possession. Additionally, investigators found four loaded firearms within the vehicle, as well as a bulletproof vest. It was revealed that two of the firearms were reported stolen, and one had its serial number removed, raising concerns about illegal weapon possession.
At the time of his arrest, Carothers was not a first-time offender; he had prior convictions for burglary and gun-related charges stemming from incidents in Cambria County. This background contributed to the severity of his sentencing.
The court has ordered Carothers to serve a total of 10 years in prison, after which he will be subject to three years of supervised release, highlighting continued oversight in light of his criminal history.
