Maroon 5 has officially announced their return. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Adam Levine, the band’s lead vocalist, revealed that fans can look forward to a new album and a subsequent tour this year.
When host Jimmy Fallon brought up the speculation surrounding a new song and album from the band, Levine confirmed, “I can confirm the rumors are true. It’s true. The rumors are correct.”
Under further inquiry from Fallon about specific details, Levine elaborated, “There are details. I cannot divulge all the details. But the details are basically, roughly, there’s a single coming at the end of the month-ish. I’m really excited about it. An album is coming over the summer. Non-specifically around the summertime. And then, even more non-specifically, there is a tour coming in the fall-ish.”
Levine also took a moment to reflect on his collaboration with producer Benny Blanco, which marked a significant shift in the band’s musical approach.
Describing Blanco, Levine noted, “He’s fun, he’s hilarious. He kind of convinced me to write music away from the band. Because I had only kept it in the band before, so we’d never had outside writers on any of that stuff.” Some tracks that influenced this creative direction included “Stereo Hearts” and “Moves Like Jagger.”
Levine reminisced, “I was like, ‘Oh, this is a lot of fun.’ Having new energy is a great thing.” He added, “And funnily enough, now I’ve kind of gone back to writing and shutting everybody out. But Benny was the first guy that got me to kind of think outside of the band.”
