Weezer took the stage on the second day of Coachella, delivering an energetic performance that spanned 45 minutes, showcasing some of their most popular songs at the Mojave Stage. The setlist featured iconic tracks such as “Say It Ain’t So,” “Beverly Hills,” and “Island in the Sun,” captivating the audience with their familiar sound.
The concert began with the opening number “My Name Is Jonas,” and later included a surprise cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” much to the crowd’s exhilaration. Fans came out in droves, spilling beyond the immediate audience area, brandishing signs with a “W” symbol akin to the graphics displayed during the show. As the performance wound down, the audience chanted for the band, culminating in a lively rendition of “Buddy Holly.”
Despite the celebration, the set was overshadowed by recent troubling events involving the band’s bassist, Scott Shriner. Just days before the festival, Shriner’s wife, bestselling author Jillian Lauren Shriner, was arrested on charges of attempted murder after a confrontation with police in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. Reports indicate that she fired a weapon at law enforcement officers and was subsequently shot during the incident, which stemmed from an investigation into hit-and-run suspects.

Coachella kicks off an extensive schedule of festival appearances for Weezer, with upcoming performances set for Glastonbury, Soundside Festival, and the When We Were Young festivals later in the fall. Additionally, the band recently announced plans for a European tour in 2025, including stops in cities like Berlin, Zurich, and Dublin during the summer. In 2024, Weezer marked the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, often referred to as the Blue Album, releasing a super deluxe edition filled with demo tracks and live recordings from their performances in the 1990s. The band also launched the Blue Tour to celebrate this milestone, featuring support from The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr.
