Vice President Vance’s Trophy Slip at Ohio State Celebration
During a recent event at the White House honoring Ohio State University’s national football championship victory, Vice President JD Vance experienced a lighthearted mishap when he accidentally dropped the championship trophy. The incident occurred amid a festive atmosphere as the Marine Corps Band played Queen’s “We Are The Champions.”
As an alumnus of Ohio State, Vance attempted to lift the prestigious trophy but struggled momentarily as it detached from its base. Fortunately, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson, who was present alongside Vance, quickly stepped in to recover the trophy before any major damage occurred.
In a humorous take on the event, Vance later addressed the situation through a post on X, jokingly suggesting, “I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it.”
The trophy drop happened shortly after Vance and President Trump delivered remarks during the celebration, which included various players and coaches from the Ohio State team. The Buckeyes had secured their national championship title by defeating Notre Dame 34-23 in a game held on January 20, coinciding with Trump’s inauguration.
This celebration not only recognized Ohio State’s athletic achievements but also highlighted the camaraderie and spirit among players, alumni, and officials. Despite the slip-up, the event remained a memorable occasion for those involved, encapsulating the triumphs of the Buckeye football program.
