Carly Rae Jepsen Set to Bring 10 Things I Hate About You to Broadway
Carly Rae Jepsen, the acclaimed artist from Mission, B.C., has been selected to create the music for the Broadway adaptation of the beloved teen romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.
In collaboration with composer Ethan Gruska, Jepsen will contribute to the musical’s score, while the book will be crafted by Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang. This new theatrical rendition is being produced by Mike Bosner and is inspired by the 1999 film, which is known for its witty take on William Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew.”
The original movie, which starred Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has maintained a devoted following and is often celebrated for its sharp dialogue and memorable performances.
This will mark Jepsen’s return to Broadway, having previously appeared in a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” in 2014. While details regarding the premiere date of this new musical remain unspecified, Tony Award-winning director Christopher Wheeldon has already committed to directing the adaptation.
As excitement builds around this project, it aims to translate the film’s charm and enduring themes of love and individuality to a new theatrical audience. Fans of both the original film and Jepsen’s music are eager to see how her unique style will enhance this vibrant new adaptation.
