TL;DR
Many users have reported that Nothing Ear (2) earbuds are experiencing disintegration, primarily due to weak adhesive between the plastic shells. Attempts to fix the issue independently have often led to microphone malfunctions.
While Nothing is still a relatively new player in the tech industry, it has rapidly garnered a dedicated customer base globally. With over four years of experience and numerous product launches, the brand has consistently improved its offerings. However, one specific product has encountered significant durability issues that have affected numerous users—including myself.
I am referring to the Nothing Ear (2) earbuds. Our initial assessment praised the device for its sound quality and comfort, and I have personally enjoyed using them for over two years. Unfortunately, their longevity leaves much to be desired. About six months ago, I discovered that the two plastic shells of one earbud had begun to separate.
In an effort to repair the earbuds, I tried applying glue, but that solution did not prove effective. Eventually, I resorted to using a thin piece of tape, which surprisingly worked adequately for some time until the other earbud exhibited the same flaw a few months later.
It appears that my experience is not an isolated incident. Numerous users are voicing similar concerns with the durability of both the Nothing Ear (2) and its predecessor, the Ear (1). A glance at various posts on Reddit and Twitter confirms a widespread issue. Many users have reported that the shells of their earbuds have come apart over time, with experiences detailed by various users. Additionally, others have indicated that similar problems were present in the Ear (1), with many reporting that their adhesive repairs led to microphone failures or declining audio quality.
It remains unknown if the problems extend to the 2024 version of the earbuds, which have simplified their branding to just Nothing Ear. While the two-shell design appears unchanged at first glance, it is possible that improved adhesive has been utilized. However, the design requiring users to squeeze the casing for controls might mean that these issues could continue in the long run. It is hoped that future iterations of Nothing’s earbud line will address these concerns effectively.
