Bill Maher Delivers Sharp Commentary on Pope Francis and Trump’s Administration

This past Friday, Bill Maher opened the latest episode of “Real Time” by paying tribute to the recently deceased Pope Francis, while also taking a humorous jab at Vice President JD Vance, who had met with the Pope just hours before his passing.

“At 88 years old, after a 38-day hospitalization for a lung infection and pneumonia, he met JD for half an hour and then just keeled over,” Maher quipped, highlighting the irony surrounding the timing of their meeting.

Much of Maher’s monologue centered on Pope Francis, who died on Monday due to complications from a stroke and subsequent heart failure. “It’s a sad week; the pope has passed away, and fentanyl remains a serious issue,” he stated. Maher pointed out that Pope Francis was the first pope from South America, humorously speculating about what would happen following the eight days of repose at the Vatican. “ICE will likely come by and ship him to El Salvador.”

In a shift of focus, Maher noted that this Wednesday marks Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office, a milestone often used to assess a president’s initial effectiveness. “It’s a significant event whenever a president reaches their first 100 days,” Maher remarked. “Time flies when you’re in the fetal position.”

Maher then turned his attention to the “kooky cabinet members” within Trump’s administration, particularly Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The former Fox News host made headlines once more this week by allegedly sharing sensitive information via a Signal group chat, following recent criticism for involving Atlantic Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg in a discussion of “imminent war plans.”

“What a scad!” Maher exclaimed while discussing Hegseth’s latest blunder. “He was caught sharing top secret information and did it again! He sent attack plans to his wife, brother, and lawyer, insisting it’s no big deal since they can all be trusted. His wife, however, remains skeptical about anything he says.”

In a related story, Maher criticized Hegseth for allegedly installing a makeup room at the Pentagon. “Pete denies it, claiming it’s merely a countertop, a tall director’s chair, a mirror, a makeup light, and a pink neon sign that reads ‘You go girl!’ But don’t be mistaken: it’s not a makeup room at all,” he added with a laugh.

In a surprising twist, Maher noted that President Trump doesn’t seem overly concerned about the controversies surrounding Hegseth. “Trump’s position is clear: he stands by Pete and blames Al Gore for inventing the internet.”

“Real Time with Bill Maher” airs Fridays on HBO.
