Shedeur Sanders’ unexpected fall in the 2025 NFL Draft has generated considerable discussion among fans and analysts alike.

Despite being projected as a top quarterback prospect, Sanders went unselected in both the first and second rounds of the draft. His prospects began to waver as critiques emerged regarding his performance during pre-draft interviews.

Prior analysis highlighted Sanders’ habit of holding onto the ball for long periods, which further fueled speculation about his declining draft stock. Interestingly, the New York Giants, who had acquired veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason, were nevertheless linked to Sanders as a potential pick. However, they ultimately opted to trade back into the first round to secure former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart instead.

ESPN commentator and former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark expressed his astonishment at the Steelers’ choice not to select Sanders when they were on the clock in the first round. “What the hell!” Clark exclaimed, displaying his disbelief.

Ultimately, the Steelers used their 21st pick to draft defensive tackle Derrick Harmon instead.

Clark further questioned the Steelers’ ongoing quarterback strategy, rhetorically asking, “Mason Rudolph? Mason Rudolph!?” He criticized the team’s indecisiveness, referencing Rudolph’s lackluster performance after joining the Tennessee Titans, where he threw nine touchdowns against as many interceptions in 2024.

While Aaron Rodgers has been linked with the Steelers following recent discussions with the front office, he has yet to confirm his commitment to returning to the field, leaving Pittsburgh’s quarterback position uncertain. Presently, aside from Rudolph, Skylar Thompson is the only quarterback under contract with the team.

In the 2024 season, Shedeur Sanders amassed an impressive 4,134 passing yards. He is notably the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and current Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders.
