A Nice Indian Boy, a romantic comedy featuring Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff alongside Karan Soni, is set for a digital release on May 6, following its time in theaters. The screenplay, penned by Eric Randall, adapts the original play written by Madhuri Shekar.

The story centers on Naveen Gavaskar, portrayed by Soni, who is a modest, gentle-hearted doctor navigating life with a loud mother, an apparently perfect sister, and a reserved father. Although the Gavaskar family outwardly embraces Naveen’s sexuality, they have yet to confront its reality. Their dynamics shift when Naveen encounters Jay Kurundkar, played by Groff, a white man raised by Indian adoptive parents. Over time, Naveen is captivated by Jay’s genuine nature and assertive personality, resulting in a budding romance that Naveen hesitates to share with his family.

As their relationship develops, the Gavaskars are forced to grapple with accepting Naveen’s partner, an artist with a complex background, while also assisting them in planning their dream Indian wedding. The couple faces humorous misunderstandings, heartfelt arguments, and poignant disclosures, compelling Naveen’s family to reassess their own relationships. Ultimately, a tender reconciliation leads them to unite in organizing Naveen and Jay’s grand Indian wedding. Directed by Roshan Sethi, the film also stars Sunita Mani, Zarna Garg, and Harish Patel.

Fresh off his Tony Award victory last year, Groff has returned to Broadway, taking on the role of Bobby Darin in the new musical Just in Time at the Circle in the Square Theatre. His extensive Broadway resume includes acclaimed performances in productions such as Hamilton (Tony Nomination, Grammy Award), Spring Awakening (Tony Nomination), and In My Life.
