Perplexity Introduces AI Image Generation FeatureThe visuals are created using the OpenAI model recently launched for ChatGPTPerplexity has also incorporated OpenAI’s o3-mini and xAI’s Grok-3 models

The AI-based search platform, Perplexity, has integrated a new feature that allows users to generate AI-driven images. This functionality harnesses the same model used by ChatGPT, enabling visually rich answers.

For those skeptical about the similarity in outputs, one can compare images generated by both Perplexity and ChatGPT, using identical prompts. It’s akin to an AI writer crafting fantasy realms instead of composing legal narratives.

Launched quietly this week, Perplexity now offers users three free image generations daily, while Pro users enjoy unlimited access. The interface is user-friendly, making it simple for anyone to utilize.

To create an image, users simply need to instruct the AI to “generate an image of” a specific subject or phrase. Moreover, Perplexity automatically selects the official model (GPT-4.1) for image production, ensuring consistent results, as currently, other models on the platform do not support image generation.

you can generate images on perplexity now. the UI is cute and fun. we have also added support for grok 3 and o4-mini for model selection options (which already supports gemini 2.5 pro, claude 3.7, perplexity sonar, gpt-4.1, deepseek r1 1776), and looking into supporting o3 as… pic.twitter.com/RX6L98pf2gApril 25, 2025

Perplexity Enhancements

In addition to its image generation capabilities, Perplexity has introduced several new models to improve its functionality.

Among these updates is xAI’s Grok 3 model, which users can utilize when posing questions. Furthermore, OpenAI’s o4-mini model has been introduced as part of the “reasoning” model options.

This strategy aligns well with Perplexity’s vision of curating and integrating various models to enhance user experience without building everything independently.

This approach makes sense, especially for users who wish to explore AI tools without being tied down to a single option. Many simply want to interact with an intelligent assistant, receive clear information, and perhaps enjoy an engaging image, all in an efficient manner.

Incorporating ChatGPT’s image generation feature adds an exciting visual element to the AI search engine, likely appealing to more users as it expands to include voice assistance in the Perplexity mobile application.
