As the election results continue to emerge nationwide, Saskatchewan appears set to remain a Conservative stronghold, in sharp contrast to the anticipated Liberal government at the national level.
The province entered the election with all 14 ridings held by Conservative incumbents, and as of Monday night, there has been minimal change in that landscape.
In an unexpected turn, Liberal candidate Buckley Belanger has secured a victory in Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, a seat formerly held by Conservative Gary Vidal, who opted out of the race following a boundary adjustment.
Conservative Cathay Wagantall was among the first to be re-elected in Yorkton-Melville, marking the beginning of a series of Conservative victories throughout the province.
Former provincial cabinet minister Steven Bonk was also elected decisively in Souris-Moose Mountain, a historic Conservative area.
In a solid display of electoral strength, Rosemarie Falk retained her seat in Battlefords-Lloydminster-Meadow Lake by a significant margin. Likewise, Kelly Block — who has represented Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek since its inception in 2015 — also secured re-election.
As results continued to unfold, other Conservative victories emerged, with Fraser Tolmie re-elected in Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan, Randy Hoback in Prince Albert, Jeremy Patzer in Swift Current-Grasslands-Kindersley, and former federal Tory leader Andrew Scheer, who has held the Regina-Qu’appelle riding for over two decades.
Brad Redekopp will return as the Conservative candidate for Saskatoon West as well. By 11:00 PM on Monday, Conservative candidates were leading in four additional ridings yet to be declared, including Regina-Lewvan, Regina Wascana, Saskatoon South, and Saskatoon-University.
