Conservative Leader Poilievre Addresses Supporters Following Election Results

In the wake of a projected win for the Liberals, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spoke to his supporters in Ottawa Tuesday morning, reaffirming his commitment to leading the party.

As votes continue to be counted in various regions, uncertainty lingers about whether the Liberals will secure a majority or minority government. As of 1:37 a.m. Eastern on April 29, the outcome remains undetermined.

“It will be an honour to continue to fight for you and be a champion for your cause as we go forward,” Poilievre declared to a jubilant audience. “I would like to extend my congratulations to Prime Minister Carney on leading this minority government. Our political discourse may often be contentious, but tonight we unite as Canadians.”

Here is the excerpt of Poilievre’s remarks:

Standing here today fills me with immense gratitude; only in Canada could a narrative like Ana and mine flourish—a son of educators and a Venezuelan refugee at the forefront of our nation’s political landscape. We are ready to serve, having witnessed millions exercise their democratic rights.

We take immense pride in this moment.

Our appreciation for the opportunity granted to us by Canadians is boundless.

I must express my heartfelt thanks to my incredible wife, Ana. You have been my unwavering support. I cherish you and our children more than words can convey. This journey would not have been possible without you. Thank you.

My commitment to Canadians is simple: anyone, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to thrive. Through determination and hard work, everyone should have access to an affordable home in a safe community.

Restoring that promise is my mission in politics.

I extend my gratitude to the candidates who campaigned under the Conservative banner, to the volunteers who invested their time and resources, and to all those who supported our cause. Your efforts are deeply appreciated.

To the millions of Canadians who supported the Conservative Party, thank you for placing your hopes in us. It is my privilege to fight for you. To my fellow Conservatives, let us celebrate our achievements tonight.

We have gained over 20 seats, and our party received the highest percentage of the vote since 1988. We successfully countered the NDP and Liberals’ bid for a coalition government, all while facing challenging circumstances.

However, we recognize that we have not yet crossed the finish line. Change is necessary, but it is a gradual process. We must reflect on tonight’s lessons to achieve even better results in the future.

Canadians have opted for a narrowly divided minority government, a near tie in the vote count. Thus, I congratulate Prime Minister Carney on leading this minority government.

[Crowd boos]

Let’s refrain from dissenting voices tonight. We have ample opportunities for debate ahead. For now, we come together as Canadians. We will diligently fulfill our responsibility to hold the government accountable while honoring the participation of all political affiliations in our democracy.

As we pursue our duty to scrutinize the government and propose constructive alternatives, we will prioritize Canada as we confront challenges such as tariffs and other erratic actions from President Trump.

Conservatives will collaborate with the prime minister and all parties to advance Canada’s interests and negotiate a trade deal that alleviates these tariffs while safeguarding our sovereignty and the wellbeing of the Canadian populace.

I also express my appreciation for my Conservative team, my caucus, and all those who have played a role in reshaping the political landscape in our nation.

Tonight marks significant achievements for Conservatives as we garnered unprecedented support from blue-collar workers, union members, youth, and new Canadian citizens.

We amplified the voices of countless individuals who have felt marginalized for far too long. We effectively engaged in crucial debates surrounding the carbon tax, inflation, housing, the drug crisis, and safety concerns.

We will continue to lead these discussions and strive to provide compelling solutions to enhance the lives of Canadians across the country.

I commit to holding the government accountable daily on behalf of the multitude of Canadians who aspire for change.

Every corner I visited, hardworking individuals shared their struggles, aspirations, and fears with me. I have heard from welders, waitresses, farmers, factory workers, seniors, entrepreneurs, single parents, and young families—all seeking the opportunity to own a home.

Parents expressed concerns that their children might never be able to escape their current living situations. Grandparents lamented witnessing their grandchildren suffer due to economic shortcomings, and many citizens feel insecure due to rising crime rates.

These stories have touched my heart and fueled my determination to advocate for a better future. These individuals still need advocates, and I will relentlessly champion their causes every single day.

We hear your stories and will carry them into parliament, ensuring we never lose sight of those we represent and fight for.

For some, disappointment may linger that change did not manifest tonight. Change is a gradual endeavor requiring persistence because our nation and its citizens are worth fighting for.

I will fight for every individual who stood with us today, including those who cast their votes for other parties.

My message tonight extends to the single mother working tirelessly, yet struggling to fill her fridge; to young people facing despair over homeownership; to seniors on fixed incomes feeling the impact of inflation; and to those living in fear due to rising crime.

To all marginalized individuals who feel overlooked and neglected, I offer a message of hope.

While achieving change takes time, we are committed to that pursuit. We will not relent in delivering the transformations necessary for the future, upholding the Canadian promise that anyone can achieve success through hard work and diligence within a supportive community.

Canada first, Canada always. Let’s bring it home.

Thank you, Canada. Merci beaucoup, Canada.
