Meta has announced the development of a new social experience called Blumhouse Horrorverse for its Horizon VR platform. This immersive environment will feature beloved characters and settings from various well-known horror franchises produced by Blumhouse, including The Purge, Wolf Man, and Happy Death Day. The official launch for Blumhouse Horrorverse is scheduled for May 22.
The Horrorverse is designed like a spooky amusement park, set within a mysterious fog-laden forest, with a central structure inspired by Blumhouse itself. It will offer exclusive content screenings, darkly themed mini-games related to the horror franchises — such as a target practice game reminiscent of The Purge — and immersive surroundings that capture the essence of these popular stories.
A highlight of the Horrorverse is the Survival Lockdown game, located within the Blumhouse venue. In this engaging activity, one participant activates a lever that seals all players inside, assigning them randomly as either a villain or a victim, in a format similar to Dead by Daylight. Victims must navigate their escape while villains, portrayed by characters like M3GAN or Babyface, work to thwart their efforts.
This initiative marks Blumhouse’s latest foray into the gaming industry. The company has previously established its presence in the market with its Blumhouse Games label, which focuses on indie games not directly tied to its film franchises. At the Summer Game Fest 2024, Blumhouse Games unveiled six new titles, including the previously released Fear the Spotlight.
