A man has admitted to the manslaughter of one victim linked to a double murder case, where two bodies were discovered in suitcases near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. Yostin Andres Mosquera faces charges for the murders of Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, which occurred on or before July 11 of the previous year in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
During a hearing at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, the 35-year-old defendant acknowledged pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Mr. Alfonso. However, he rejects the murder charges pertaining to both individuals.
Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC stated that the prosecution does not accept Mosquera’s plea, affirming that he will continue to face trial for the allegations of murder.
Mosquera, who hails from Colombia, appeared in court wearing a black tracksuit and only spoke to confirm his identity, utilizing a Spanish interpreter to facilitate the proceedings.
Authorities initiated an investigation after the grisly discovery of human remains tucked inside two suitcases near the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge last July.
A significant manhunt eventually led to Mosquera’s arrest at Bristol Temple Meads train station just days following the discovery of the remains.
While Mr. Longworth was a British citizen, Mr. Alfonso originally hailed from France and had acquired British citizenship.
The trial for Mosquera is anticipated to commence on Wednesday.
