Malayalam Rapper Vedan, Recently Bailed in a Drug Case, Re-Arrested by Kerala Forest Department for Alleged Possession of Leopard Tooth
Malayalam rapper Vedan was taken into custody in connection with two separate cases within a short span of time.
Just hours after being granted bail for a drug-related offense, Malayalam rapper and lyricist Hirandas Murali, known as Vedan, found himself in trouble again, this time at the hands of the Kerala Forest Department. Authorities, led by Forests Minister A K Saseendran, reported that Vedan was apprehended following the discovery of a leopard tooth in his possession, prompting an investigation under wildlife protection laws.
The leopard tooth was reportedly uncovered during a police search at the artist’s rented home in Kozhikode on Monday. The Forest Department was subsequently alerted, according to Minister Saseendran.
“Upon determining that it was indeed a leopard tooth, the department registered a case and took him into custody. An investigation is underway to ascertain its origin. Once concluded, a report will be submitted to the court for further action,” the minister informed the press.
Minister Saseendran noted that Vedan had been monitored by the Forest Department’s vigilance unit due to previous reports regarding his conduct. During questioning, the rapper initially stated that the tooth had been acquired from Thailand, but later changed his narrative, claiming it was a gift from a fan at an event in Chennai in May 2024.
Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya confirmed that investigations into the origins of the drugs found at Vedan’s residence are ongoing. Alongside Vedan, eight others were arrested in relation to the case. The authorities seized five grams of dried ganja, drug paraphernalia, mobile phones, and around Rs 9.50 lakh in cash during the raid. Officials stated that all suspects were granted station bail following the formal recording of their arrests.
