Make the Season Bright by Ashley Herring Blake
Charlotte Donovan has an intense dislike for December; in fact, it seems as though the month returns the sentiment. Every year, the holiday season brings her nothing short of chaos. Her past experiences have not been forgiving—particularly a memorable incident from five years ago when her fiancé abandoned her at the altar.
On the professional front, however, she thrives. As a co-founder of the celebrated Rosalind Quartet, Charlotte is on the verge of an exciting European tour. Yet, she feels compelled to endure the Christmas season once more. Despite her desire for solitude during the holidays, Sloane, another co-founder of the quartet, persuades her to join a trip to Sloane’s hometown in Colorado, famous for its festive spirit. Reluctantly, Charlotte consents, hoping to use the trip as an opportunity to squeeze in extra rehearsal time.
Meanwhile, Brighton Fairbrook has found herself in a different situation. Working at Ampersand, a Nashville bar that showcases live music, she once aspired to be a musician. However, after a contentious split from a successful band she co-founded, she has turned her back on music altogether. With plans to spend Christmas in Michigan with her family thwarted, Brighton is urged by her friend and employer, Adele, to accompany her back to Colorado. Adele’s mother owns a bakery in a charming small town where the highlight of the holiday season is an event known as Two Turtledoves, which hosts a series of holiday-themed dates for singles, including visitors.
Initially resistant to the idea of going to Colorado, Brighton reluctantly agrees, seeing it as a fallback option. Her perspective dramatically shifts when she arrives and unexpectedly encounters Charlotte—the woman she had left five years prior at the altar.
This novel offers a delightful blend of humor, relatable awkwardness, and steamy moments, making it an enjoyable read during the festive season.
