In the vast universe of No Man’s Sky, players can encounter various Space Stations that serve as hubs for trading goods and upgrading technologies. These stations feature interactions with alien races associated with different guilds, such as the Merchant, Explorer, and Mercenary Guilds.
Each of these guilds functions like a marketplace, allowing players to sell valuable items, including unique artifacts and contraband, or pick up missions that offer special rewards.
Here’s a guide to locating a Mercenaries Guild in No Man’s Sky.
Finding the Mercenaries Guild in No Man’s Sky
The Mercenaries Guild is symbolized by a distinctive shield and sword icon. While all Space Stations in No Man’s Sky are affiliated with a guild, it is not guaranteed that a specific station will have the Mercenaries Guild. Consequently, players will need to warp between multiple star systems and explore each Space Station to locate the desired guild. Space Stations are identifiable by an orange hexagon in space.
Fortunately, each guild shares a consistent location within the Space Station, irrespective of the star system. Upon landing, players can access the second level by using stairs or their jetpack and navigate to the right side of the station to discover the appropriate guild, whether it be the Explorer, Merchant, or Mercenaries Guild.
The Mercenaries Guild tends to have a higher probability of appearing in Star Systems that are inhabited by the Vy’Keen, a race known for its interest in conflict and warfare. However, this does not assure that every Vy’Keen system will host a Mercenaries Guild, prompting players to continue their exploration.
Utilizing the Mercenaries Guild in No Man’s Sky
Players will unlock missions after establishing their reputation. The first interaction with a Mercenaries Guild Envoy initiates a trading sequence where players must donate significant Guild Items to demonstrate their allegiance. Items suitable for donation include contraband obtained from deceased pirates or salvaged materials from destroyed Sentinels.
Contributing valuable items, like Pirate Transponders, will help players accumulate Reputation Points, advancing their standing within the Guild. Although ranks largely serve an ornamental purpose, achieving the Initiate and Apprentice ranks unlocks new content and opportunities for gameplay.
Reaching the Initiate rank allows players to receive gifts from Guild envoys, while ascending to the Apprentice rank opens access to Guild Missions. Successfully completing these missions enhances a player’s reputation by five points.
Typically, these missions will involve traveling to different planets and engaging in conflict with Sentinels or Pirates to uphold peace in the galaxy. As players’ ranks within the guild increase, so too does the difficulty of assigned missions. Here’s a breakdown of the ranks achievable in the Mercenaries Guild:
Rank | Reputation Points
Hated | Minus Five
Hostile | Minus Two
Unknown (initial rank) | Zero
Initiate | Three
Apprentice | Eight
Journeyman | Fourteen
Associate | Twenty-One
Senior | Thirty
Master | Forty
Elder | Sixty
Exalted | One Hundred Plus
While completing missions can boost one’s rank, failing assignments or targeting innocent NPCs will adversely affect a player’s reputation with the Guild. Higher ranks yield rarer rewards from Envoys, and as players enhance their reputation, they unlock upgrade blueprints for their multi-tool weapons.
Accessing the Mercenaries Guild in Abandoned Mode
With the recent Worlds Part Two update, No Man’s Sky introduced a new gameplay option known as Abandoned Mode. Choosing this mode at the start means no alien life forms will appear within the game’s universe.
Consequently, all Space Stations, outposts, and settlements will be void of NPCs, making it impossible to access the Mercenaries Guild’s quests and rewards, since they are managed by these non-playable characters.
For those interested in engaging in bounty hunting and collaborating with the Mercenaries Guild, it is advisable to play in the standard game mode rather than opting for Abandoned Mode.
