With a fresh color option, the new M4 MacBook Air closely resembles its predecessor released last year. We have conducted hands-on testing and captured images to share our experience.
For 2025, Apple introduces several key updates to both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models. Notably, these laptops are now powered by a similar M4 chip found in the base 14-inch MacBook Pro, featuring a robust 10-core CPU and an 8-core GPU. Another upgrade is the adoption of the 12-megapixel Center Stage webcam, which offers a wider field of view and the ability to keep the user centered within the frame during video calls. Additionally, users can now connect two external monitors while keeping the laptop lid open, allowing for a more versatile triple-monitor setup.
The new color option, sky blue, takes the place of space gray in the lineup. The existing choices of starlight, silver, and midnight remain, although the midnight shade continues to attract fingerprints. The sky blue color has a subtle metallic finish that can easily be confused with silver unless viewed side by side. Some might liken it to a light blue reminiscent of certain car models from earlier years, suggesting it’s attractive yet not distinctly vibrant enough. It could even be humorously labeled as ‘non-committal blue.’
Another significant change for the MacBook Air is its reduced starting price, making it more accessible. The 13-inch model is now priced at $999, while the 15-inch variant starts at $1,199. This marks a return to the original pricing for the 13-inch version, which had increased during the M2 generation. Though the upgrades might seem marginal aspects like the new color and a chip bump, this $100 price reduction is a compelling incentive for many consumers.
In addition to our exploration of the MacBook Air, we also examined the new Mac Studio models—one equipped with the M4 Max chip and another featuring the all-new M3 Ultra. While the external design has not changed, the internal advancements represent significant improvements for professionals engaged in demanding creative tasks or local AI applications.
Apple’s latest Mac and iPad offerings are set to be released next week and are already available for pre-order. Stay tuned for an array of photographs showcasing these new devices.
