A24 is set to release its intriguing new film, “Death of a Unicorn.”
This feature, crafted by writer and director Alex Scharfman, features Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega in a bizarre story where they unintentionally encounter a unicorn during a trip to a weekend retreat. According to the film’s synopsis, their billionaire employer, played by Richard E. Grant, aims to leverage the unicorn’s extraordinary healing abilities. While the premise may sound wild, early glimpses suggest an even more outrageous narrative. A newly released trailer provides a sneak peek.
The cast of “Death of a Unicorn” also includes Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes, adding a diverse range of talent to the film. Production credits go to Ari Aster’s Square Peg and Ley Line Entertainment, known for their contributions to acclaimed A24 titles like “The Green Knight” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Cinematographer Larry Fong, recognized for his work with directors like J.J. Abrams and Zack Snyder, was behind the camera, while the film’s score features music composed by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies, which heightens the anticipation surrounding its soundscape.
From what the trailer conveys, “Death of a Unicorn” promises a chaotic atmosphere reminiscent of the cult classic “Gremlins,” blending creature-centric chaos with thoughtful social insights. The film is on track for a theatrical rollout by A24 in the upcoming spring season.
