Texas Governor Greg Abbott Responds to Controversial Remarks from Democratic Lawmaker
Texas Governor Greg Abbott addressed comments made by Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett, who recently appeared to mock him during a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles. Abbott stated that such remarks from Democrats would ultimately weaken their standing in future elections.
In an interview with “Hannity,” Abbott remarked on the current state of the Democratic Party, saying, “It’s another day and another disaster by the Democrats. The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it.” This statement underscores the ongoing tensions between the two political parties in Texas and the nation.
During her speech, Crockett referred to Abbott with a derogatory nickname, calling him “Governor Hot Wheels.” Her comment quickly drew criticism from various political circles.

Following the backlash, Crockett sought to clarify her comments through a post on social media platform X. She stated that her intention was not to focus on Abbott’s wheelchair but rather to criticize policies that she feels undermine vulnerable communities. “I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” she explained. Furthermore, she stated that her subsequent remark about him being a “Hot A** Mess” was in reference to his policies and not his condition.
In response to Crockett’s remarks, Republican Representative Randy Weber announced plans to pursue a censure resolution against her, labeling her rhetoric as “venomous.”
Governor Abbott, who has been paralyzed since a tragic accident at the age of 26 when a tree fell on him while jogging, highlighted the achievements of his administration. He pointed to Texas’s economic development successes, noting, “Texas ranks number one for the most new economic development projects for 13 years in a row. CEOs who run businesses have ranked Texas the best state for doing business for 20 years in a row.”
In her political career, Representative Crockett has been a staunch critic of former President Donald Trump’s administration and has sparked controversy with her statements, including a recent comment suggesting that Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, should face consequences for his actions.
Crockett, who was elected to Congress in 2022, continues to be a prominent figure in discussions about policy and civil rights within Texas, drawing attention for both her critiques and her remarks. Meanwhile, Governor Abbott remains a significant player in state politics, touting his administration’s record as evidence of effective governance.
