ABC’s Senior Executive Producer Marc Burstein to Retire
Marc Burstein, who has played a pivotal role in ABC’s special events coverage for many years, announced that he will retire after the inauguration of Donald Trump for his second term. His final day with the network is set for January 31.
In a heartfelt letter to employees, Burstein reflected on his 27-year tenure, stating, “I’ve had an extraordinary run, and it’s been my honor and a privilege to lead the special events team covering the most significant events of our time. It’s meant that not a day has gone by that I don’t go to sleep without first checking that my phone is charged and the ringer is on high.” This message was initially reported by Variety.
Burstein expressed a mix of nostalgia and readiness, noting, “After producing literally thousands of special reports and countless planned events, the time has come for me to step away and sleep at night. How does one know when the time is right? To be honest, I don’t know. But it feels right.” He underscored that a significant transition is underway, with another presidential election concluded and the launch of a new headquarters building on the horizon. “After the inauguration next month, I will be retiring from ABC News,” he added.
Starting his career at ABC in the 1980s, Burstein has been a cornerstone of the network’s special events division since 1997. He has crafted a legacy characterized by a commitment to delivering critical news coverage during pivotal moments in history. Although he will retire, Burstein plans to continue contributing to ABC as a consultant.
