Abhishek Bachchan Discusses Transformation in I Want To Talk
During the recent music launch for the film I Want To Talk, Abhishek Bachchan shared insights regarding his role and the significant physical transformation he underwent while collaborating with director Shoojit Sircar.
Known for his impactful storytelling, Sircar previously directed Amitabh Bachchan in the acclaimed film Piku. Abhishek lauded Sircar’s unique approach and expressed how his experience on the set was both educational and transformative.
Reflecting on the filming process, Abhishek mentioned, “I’m very lucky! There’s always a huge beeline outside his office because the experience of making a film with him is very transformative. Not just physically, from what you see. I promise you I’m not in this shape anymore,” as he pointed to the film’s poster, featuring him with a notably large belly.
The actor clarified that the belly displayed on the poster was authentic, stating, “And that is me. That isn’t any prosthetic.” He explained that he intentionally gained weight for the role, labeling the entire transformation as a “life-changing” experience. “But it’s been a learning experience. It’s been life-changing. And I hope that we’ve managed to make a bit of a difference to your two, three hours that you spend in the cinema or watching the film. We’ve worked hard. It’s a very sincere effort,” he remarked.
Abhishek expressed admiration for Sircar’s distinct style of filmmaking, contrasting it with conventional cinema. “What I liked about working with him is the kind of cinema he represents is so very different from what we generally make in the film industry. And I think that’s a breath of fresh air. It’s nice once in a while in life to just pause, take a breath, and feel something instead of just being dictated to all the time,” he shared, highlighting the emotional depth of the narrative.
Furthermore, he revealed that the film is particularly meaningful for Sircar, noting, “As Shoojit Da said, this is actually the story of a very dear friend of his.”
In a previous statement in August, Shoojit praised Abhishek’s performance, reflecting on the film’s appeal. He had described the project as “one of the finest of Abhishek Bachchan films,” adding, “It’s a very simple observation of life with a little smile. When I watch the film, its post-production, it brings a smile. And, I can guarantee that it is one of the finest of Abhishek Bachchan films.”
