Delta Air Lines Implements New Lounge Access Restrictions
Delta Air Lines has announced new measures to restrict access to its popular airport lounges, effective February 1. This decision targets travelers utilizing credit card memberships for lounge entry.
The newly introduced policies will regulate the frequency with which travelers can visit Delta’s Sky Club lounges, depending on their credit card membership tier. This initiative is part of a broader revamp of the airline’s loyalty program, aimed at alleviating congestion within these lounges.
Under the new guidelines, holders of the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express card and the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express card will be permitted up to 15 lounge visits annually. Meanwhile, those with an American Express Platinum card or an American Express Business Platinum card will see their access limited to 10 visits each year. It’s important to note that since 2024, Platinum card members flying on basic economy fares have not been eligible for lounge access.
For frequent travelers, there is an option to secure unlimited lounge visits by reaching a spending threshold of $75,000 on eligible purchases. Should travelers exhaust their allotted visits, they can purchase additional access at a rate of $50 per person, per visit.
In a considerate move for those with layovers, Delta has stated that travelers can access multiple lounges within a 24-hour timeframe, counting only as one visit. Additionally, if a traveler is on a same-day roundtrip itinerary, the entry pertaining to their return flight, as long as it’s within 24 hours, will also be counted as a single visit.
Those who possess multiple qualifying cards can combine their visit allowances for greater access to lounges.
This policy shift aligns with Delta’s strategy to expand and enhance its lounge offerings. Recent developments include the enlargement of the Sky Club at LaGuardia Airport in New York, the launch of the first Sky Club at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, and the enhancement of Delta One lounges at various airports nationwide.
