Actor Nagarjuna Records Statement in Defamation Case Against Minister
In a noteworthy development in the ongoing legal battle between Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and Telangana state minister Konda Suresh, Nagarjuna appeared in court on Tuesday to present his statement against the minister. He was joined by his wife, Amala, and son, Naga Chaitanya, among others, showcasing family support during this challenging time.
During the proceedings at the Nampally court, Nagarjuna provided his testimony as the complainant in the case, which has garnered considerable media attention. Following his statement, his niece, Supriya, also testified as a witness. The judge has scheduled the next hearing for October 10, indicating that the case is progressing through the judicial system.
Nagarjuna initiated a criminal defamation case against Minister Suresh on October 3, filing the complaint under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This action came in response to comments made by the minister, who implied that the divorce of Nagarjuna’s son, Naga Chaitanya, from actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu was linked to political influences, specifically implicating BRS working president KT Rama Rao. Suresh’s remarks were deemed inappropriate by the actor and his family, prompting them to seek legal recourse.
In his defamation petition, Nagarjuna argued that the minister’s statements not only tarnished the family’s reputation but were also baseless. Samantha Ruth Prabhu responded publicly to the accusations, emphasizing that her divorce was a private matter and requested that her name not be entangled in political discussions. She reiterated that the separation was amicable and based on mutual consent, countering any narratives that suggested a political motive.
Similarly, Naga Chaitanya expressed his disapproval of the comments made by Minister Suresh on social media, labeling them as false and indefensible. He stressed the importance of respecting personal decisions, particularly concerning celebrities’ lives, and condemned the exploitation of such matters for sensationalism.
Following considerable backlash on social media, Minister Suresh issued a clarification, retracting her earlier statements. The forthcoming court session on October 10 will determine whether the case will proceed or if further actions will be taken.
