The Voice Playoffs Begin with Surprising Twists
Tensions escalated on Monday’s (April 28) episode of The Voice as the highly anticipated Playoffs commenced. Coaches Kelsea Ballerini and Adam Levine faced the daunting task of narrowing their teams from five contestants down to just two.
As the episode kicked off, Levine made a statement with a bold new hairstyle that caught the attention of fellow coaches. His striking silvery locks sparked conversations among the judges, with varying opinions on the exact hue of his hair.
“Adam’s new hairdo was the focus of discussion today. Backstage, we were debating the color,” remarked Michael Bublé. He humorously added, “He looks fantastic—somewhere between Dick Van Dyke and David Beckham.”
Ballerini chimed in, suggesting, “Some might call it blonde, others silver. But ‘gray’ doesn’t quite capture it.”
John Legend lightened the mood, saying, “He really took this ‘OG’ thing seriously! Maybe he’s trying to signal his original status with those grayish shades.”
With playful banter behind them, the mood shifted as the competition intensified. Five singers from both Team Kelsea and Team Adam performed in a bid to secure their place in the live rounds. Sheryl Crow joined Team Kelsea as the Mega Mentor, while LeAnn Rimes offered guidance to Team Adam.
After expressing that it was her “most uncomfortable and nervous” moment of the season, Ballerini made the difficult decision to advance Iris Herrera, who performed Chris Stapleton’s “White Horse,” and Alanna Lynise, who delivered SZA’s “Nobody Gets Me.”
This meant that Jaelen Johnston, Tinika Wyatt, and Darius J were eliminated from the competition.
Levine described the elimination process as “brutal” but ultimately chose Lucia Flores-Wiseman for her rendition of “In My Life” by The Beatles and Kolby Cordell, who sang Bruno Mars’ “Finesse,” to move on to the next stage.
Regrettably, Levine had to part ways with Conor James, Ethan Eckenroad, and Britton Moore—all of whom had received four chair turns during the Blind Auditions.
“My decision is purely based on who performed the best tonight and who is ready to advance,” Levine stated before announcing his selections. “I have immense respect for all five of you.”
The Playoffs will continue on Monday, May 5, featuring performances from Team Legend and Team Bublé.
