In today’s celebrity culture, red carpets have evolved into platforms that celebrate fashion history, featuring vintage pieces, limited designer samples, and nods to timeless styles that were once donned by iconic personalities. Recent examples include Ayo Edebiri’s homage to Julia Roberts’ signature 80s suits and Kim Kardashian’s memorable Met Gala appearance, where she channeled Marilyn Monroe.
The beauty landscape is also evolving, especially among pop influencers who are drawing from the distinct aesthetics of earlier stars. A prominent case is Addison Rae, who has openly embraced the essence of early 2000s pop culture. Her latest inspiration comes from a notable moment involving Lindsay Lohan and her court appearance manicure from 2010.
Addison’s Album Announcement
Addison Rae has been dropping hints about her long-anticipated album since the recent Coachella festival. On April 2, Rae shared a photo where she was seen with a stick of palo santo while receiving makeup. The caption, “Cleansing your TL,” teased her fans further.
Fans observed a hidden detail on her middle finger, which was unveiled on April 24 as part of her album announcement. It revealed the date “JUNE 6,” the scheduled release for her self-titled debut album, Addison.
Her nail artist, Natalie Minerva, posted a close look at Rae’s nails, revealing that they contained a nod to the iconic Lohan manicure. Minerva wrote, “We kept this little Easter egg on @addisonraee’s nails from @coachella weekend 1 a secret until ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT today (JUNE 6th!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!) An ode to an iconic Lilo set ”
Minerva described the design as a toned-down version of Lohan’s famously bold animal-print court nails. Rather than zebra stripes, Rae’s version featured soft, cloud-like pastels, complemented by a similar pedicure. The manicure incorporated vibrant shades from OPI, including Flex On The Beach, Stay Out All Bright, It’s A Boy, and Makeout-Side for this nostalgic homage.
The Lindsay Lohan Reference
The significance of Rae’s choice of nail art extends beyond mere aesthetics; it directly references Lindsay Lohan’s daring 2010 court nails, which garnered media attention for their provocative message. Lohan’s middle finger sported a statement that read “f*ck you,” a moment that raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about potential contempt of court implications.
Lohan, however, quickly clarified via Twitter that the phrase was intended as a playful inside joke with her friends, jokingly alluding to the stencil that became infamous.
